I had a great art prof who loved her work and because of that I got a grand taste of her works in college.

I find her work, sometimes disturbing but very effective at expressing the extremes of emotion, and pain at the same time. Her essences is there so strongly in every painting I've ever seen.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01203286781888444548noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343439372519556254.post-20726111939131105662011-11-13T18:30:09.435-05:002011-11-13T18:30:09.435-05:00Doug, what a splendid post. Yes, they're very personal, but, at least to me, full of power.

I understand why Clare Booth Luce was stunned when she saw the painting of her friend, but Frida told the truth of the end of Hale's life.

I'm blown away by the pictures. I'd never seen so many of Frida's pictures all together, and they leave me breathless.

She was a beautiful woman.June Butlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01723016934182800437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343439372519556254.post-42965328028531977702011-11-12T16:49:14.883-05:002011-11-12T16:49:14.883-05:00"Not long ago, the consensus of critics saw h..."Not long ago, the consensus of critics saw her work as appealing to exclusively feminist tastes."

...which of course, We Almighty Critics, swingin' d*ck, are So Far Above!

Mind-boggling.

I find her work more fascinating than her biography (though of course, I can't be completely blase' re a woman-who-loves-women!).

Which is not to say I'm a huge "fan". A little goes a long way.

But I think her corpus is deservedly acclaimed, w/ or w/o the fandom (which will, of course, fade as all fandoms do).JCFnoreply@blogger.com
