Your dad would not qualify; too sane and too happy.

Mine wouldn't have qualified either for the same reasons. I doubt he would be an Obama supporter (too old school Republican), but he supported gay marriage long before it became legal anywhere.Counterlighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14345956180434795401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343439372519556254.post-65643871749286057522010-07-13T18:06:32.589-04:002010-07-13T18:06:32.589-04:00My dad is the same vintage as the guy in the pic (...My dad is the same vintage as the guy in the pic (WW2 vet, "Old White Guy").

But he's a proud Obama supporter, who loathes Teabagger Wingnuts (He leaves MSNBC on most of the day, the way I do! ;-/)

In other words, it's not just age, and gender, and "melanin-deficiency".

My dad has at least one foot left in Reality, and the Teabagger Wingnuts are "a sandwich short of a picnic."

What's made the difference, I wonder?

[JCF guesses: California Dept of Fish&Game employee for 40 years (Government good; corporations, less so!). Recently-deceased sister-in-law: African-American (so not isolated in his whiteness). Last but not least: Episcopalian! :-D (Doubt that there are very many Episcopal Teabaggers, verdad?)]JCFnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2343439372519556254.post-32837742349356660022010-07-13T13:45:32.768-04:002010-07-13T13:45:32.768-04:00Good post, Counterlight. I was reminded of a peace demonstration the Peace-Life Center did in front of a congressman's hometown office when I lived in Modesto in the late 70s. All the WWII conscientious objectors who were in their 70s and some young folks were there. It was a daytime demonstration. As we stood there with our signs people would drive by and honk if they agreed with them, but others would roll down their windows and yell "Get a job!" Most of the folks there were retired! It tickled the heck out of them that there weren't any more creative objections coming down the street!susan s.https://www.blogger.com/profile/03679099677585214433noreply@blogger.com
