Homage to the Visual Arts

A reverential hush falls over the blogosphere as we bid the Muses to the sacred shrine repair.
Let us now tune the lyre and sing the praises of Apelles, Xeuxis, and Phidias:

I'll return to the serious meditation on art, spirituality, and modernity soon enough.  In the meantime, I am a little under the weather, and I've spent the whole day dealing with doctors, pharmacists, and trying to appease the insurance company with blood sacrifice.  I've spent a whole lot of time on the subway shuttling between them.  "MTA, going your way!"

  1. I hope there are blue skies soon, Counterlight.

I left a note about a museum of contemporary religious art on your first June post about images of Jesus. Check it out. You'd get on well, at least in the academic colleague sense, with its director Fr. Terry Dempsey, and there might be a sale or exhibit opportunity. This is at my Catholic Jesuit Univ. - my MCC congregation has visited, has borrowed a work for the altar for Easter - Fr. Terry is very gay friendly in the "don't ask don't tell" quiet mode common among Jesuits.

  3. When the Dean's daughter was in my church school class, I blurted out "I know a song about somebody named Lydia".

I trust she's forgotten that by now.
