Governing

Why is it that when Democrats win an election with a substantial majority, they practically  apologize to the 35% of the electorate who didn't vote for them?  Why are they so anxious to avoid a fight with a faction that they've already defeated?

Why is it that when Republicans win an election by a razor thin margin or by court order, they swagger like they've just won a landslide?  Why is it that when they govern, they completely ignore the 49.9% of the electorate who didn't vote for them?
