Texas for Economic Democracy

Lampasas County Courthouse

While it's still May Day...

We now think of Texas as the right wing Valhalla, the cowboy Arcadia, and the Southern Baptist New Jerusalem. But it was not always so (and I don't think it really is completely that now either).
How many people know that American populism, grassroots progressivism, began in Texas, and in Lampasas of all places?

You can read about the National Farmer's Alliance and Industrial Union and its creation in Lampasas here and here.

I've always said that Texas is a much more complicated place than most people think (including most Texans).
