Insomnia

Michael and I are both suffering from insomnia these days. He's very stressed, which adds to my stress. My asthma has been acting up and hitting very inconveniently at night shortly after I go to bed. I've always tended to toss and turn in my sleep, and that makes things hard for insomniac Michael.

I wish I could sleep as still and soundly as this guy has since 1924 (without being dead of course).

It's Saturday morning, the one day of the week where I don't have to be anywhere (though I have a lot to do today), and I feel like ... well, I feel like this:

"Is it dead or alive? human or inhuman?" indeed.

  1. Insomnia is a bitch. I've been with her. I hope you're now more on the alive side than the other.

Last night, Tom was watching a Dracula B-movie on AMC Movie Classics. As I watched a few minutes of the over-the-top melodramatic acting, I asked him if the movie was a comedy, and he said no. I guess it's one of the it's-so-bad-it's-good classics.

Nothing to do with insomnia, of course, but maybe a distraction from your half-dead - or is it half-alive state?

  2. Speaking of over-the-top horror melodrama, I love the old Boris Karloff Mummy.

Still feeling more undead than alive, and I have a lot of errands to run plus papers to grade today.

I'm taking it all at a stately pace today.

  3. From the women's hairstyles, (you can tell even in period movies) the film appeared to be from the 70s.

Stately Doug. I can just see you.

  5. An interesting aspect of Lenin's tomb is that before the Revolution its architect, Aleksey Shchusev, was a prominent practitioner of Russian medieval-revival architecture. He was architect (1908-12) for the Marfo-Mariinsky Convent, built for the widowed Grand Duchess Elizabeth, in a style described on the convent's Wiki page as an "Art Nouveau rendering of a medieval Novgorod architectural type".

  6. Interesting article about Shchusev. I knew about his ties to Constructivism, but didn't know he went so far all over the map in the course of his career.

  7. Thanks for the support folks.

It's been a stressful Saturday with our little Betty cat saluting the dawn with a barrage of pukes, Michael having to go in to work early, and one of my studio mates finding a big pool of rainwater on the floor of his work area ... again.

I filled a prescription for a potent looking anti-inflammatory for the asthma attacks. I see the doctor again next week.
Next Friday will be doctor day. I see a kidney specialist in the morning and my pulmonary specialist (the one treating my asthma) in the afternoon.

I've decided to postpone the bulk of the grading for tomorrow

  8. I think the design for Lenin's crystal coffin in the photo is later, and appears to me inconsistent with the rest of the room.
I love "is it red flags or red lighting?" pattern on the wall of the chamber.

  9. I so hate being an insomniac! Prayers for peaceful sleep for both of you tonight!
