Dear Fans of Brad Evans

I'd like some advice.

He recently crossed a line on this blog, writing a comment on my post about Goran, which really opened a door into the outer darkness. I'd really like to put this guy out of business permanently. I'd prefer to do that by exposing him, by posting his name, address, phone number, employer, and picture up for all the world to see. He's clearly a sociopath who uses public computers around the Providence, RI area. I know there are some bloggers that he targets out there (and there are a lot of them) who track his various IP addresses. I'm thinking about doing the same, and I wonder if it might be worth the trouble of contacting the cops. He certainly is a nuisance, but how serious a nuisance is he really, and must I put up with it?

I suspect that he is small fry, a lonely obsessive with a crappy job and few to no friends, with a life so empty that trolling blogs is the only way he knows how to fill up the time. I doubt that he is quite the prominent and influential figure Robroy turned out to be. For those of you who aren't familiar with him, "Robroy" was the nom de guerre of a ferociously homophobic right wing ranter who regularly plagued Episcopal blogs and was publicly exposed as a prominent physician, political figure, and "ex-gay" in southeast Colorado. After he got outed, he hasn't been back since on anyone's blog so far as I know. I'm wondering if outing Brad Evans will have the same effect, or is he worth the trouble. Is he worth contacting the cops over, and if necessary, filing a criminal complaint?

What do you think?

  1. He left comments on my posts for Kirstin too, proving he doesn't have a shred of human decency and is on par with the Phelps gang --and I am fairly certain he would be protected by law to say and do what he says and does.

I don't read him. I spam him. And it took a while-- but nine times out of ten now, his comments are automatically sent to spam and I don't even know he's been visiting until I briefly check the spam --about once every three weeks... and then I can laugh because I take great delight in knowing he doesn't even know that I haven't known he's been a-visiting!

Spam him. Dump him in to the trash of oblivion. He's not worth nor worthy of any other effort.

  2. I do spam him, but then he goes to another public computer around Providence and manages to post before I can catch him. For a long time, I monitored all of my comments, and now just monitor those older than 5 days. I did that solely because of his offensive comments. While comment monitoring older posts is great for keeping out the commercial spam, I don't like doing it for current comments. it's too much work, and I think it's unfriendly. I've had a number of contrarian and unpleasant commenters on my blog who I would not consider to be trolls. They are just unpleasant and contrary, but sometimes that can be interesting and get some real conversations started.

So far, I have only one troll, and Brad Evans is it, and I'm getting very tired of him and would like to block him out permanently from this blog.

However, in the end, you may be right Margaret.

  3. He can say anything he likes, but he also has to be willing to live with the consequences...

I'll send you his IP addresses when he hits my blog, Counterlight.

  4. I have a feeling that most of these IP addresses will turn out to be internet cafes and rental sites. He's used a computer on the campus of Rhode Island College. He might be an employee or a student there. Most colleges would not let just anyone use their computer labs without a campus ID or some kind of permission. That's the policy at my college, and most others I know of.

  5. He's the reason I have comment moderation on at all times. He's really a very pathetic case.

  6. Whatever else we do, we must pray for him (I mean, we who are people of faith, must).

However much a bother he is, it's nothing compared to the burden he is to himself. He's truly pathetic.

  7. The spam above: is that also...???

  8. I don't mind people blog-whoring, even fundamentalists. But if he inserts himself too persistently, then he gets spammed.
