Andrew Breitbart
Andrew Breitbart is dead.
I don't believe in Karma. I don't really believe in Original Sin (at least as Breitbart and his fans understood it). I do believe in Grace unearned and undeserved.
Forty three is awfully young, and his death (probably a heart attack) was sudden and unexpected. My sympathies to his family and close friends.
Then again, I can't help but think of this line from Bette Davis, "We should only say good things about the dead. Joan Crawford is dead. Good!"
I am not going to miss him. I shed no tears for him. He did a lot of harm to a lot of people. I would imagine their feelings are of relief. Like all people who fear and hate obsessively, he turned into the very things he feared and hated.
As far as I'm concerned, this will be his legacy:
May the spirits of Dr. King and Harvey Milk be with him as he begins that long long journey to The Place Where Lazarus is Poor No More.
EXTRA:
Ol' Rushbo is leading the right wing chorus of outrage over press coverage of Breitbart's death. Speaking of mendacity and character assassination, Breitbart was the master. As an old friend of mine used to say, "it doesn't matter if you believe in God or not, you don't want to lie on your deathbed knowing you're an asshole." According to the press reports slowly coming out, Breitbart never got to that point. It's looking more and more like a sudden and massive heart attack.
I agree with Bete, Breitbart is dead, GOOD!
ReplyDeleteRIP.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember what Pinko Lefty said "Work hard, play fair, take care of yourselves...and outlive the b@stards." * I try to remember this.
*NB: I'm not calling Mr Breitbart a b@stard. I do wonder if he took care of himself (y'know, besides working to keep his taxes low).
But of Ol' Rushbo ("If the government pays for your birth control, you're a prostitute and should post videos"), my sentiments are similar to Wanda Sykes's (2009. You can Google it if you don't remember). I want that bastard OFF THE AIR, NOW!!!! >:-0
ReplyDeleteBTW: Is there a TAPE of Bette making that comment? Cuz I'd really like to assess the veracity of the quote. [Sounds a bit on the "allegedly" side, IMO]
ReplyDeleteSay nothing.
ReplyDeleteSay nothing!
Here is the exact quote:
ReplyDelete[commenting on the death of long-time nemesis Joan Crawford] "You should never say bad things about the dead, you should only say good . . . Joan Crawford is dead. Good."
And here is the link for its source:

Bette also said this:
"Just because someone's dead doesn't mean they've changed."
