May Day!
It's May Day! Time to dance around the May Pole and sing, sing sing!
Below are some May Day prints by Walter Crane, a famous member of William Morris' Arts and Crafts Movement. These are prints from Cartoons for the Cause.
And finally Crane reminds us of where the International Day of Labor began, right here in the good ol' USA. It started to commemorate the Chicago Haymarket Affair, a bombing and police riot during a labor demonstration in Haymarket Square in Chicago in 1886.
The spirit of Walter Crane lives in an updated version of his work that announces activities for today in New York. I'll try to make the rally in Union Square at 5:30. though I doubt I will be doing the march to Wall Street.
I love the link (in these images) of the pagan (Gaian) May Day, w/ the socialist one! :-)
