"What's On Your Mind" Asks Facebook

Continuing a meme taken up by Grandmere Mimi and others...

What's on my mind is how relatively little mind I've paid to this blog.  I've been busy lately with a lot of tasks at work and projects in my studio.  Also, my computer time is relatively limited.  My tiny home office faces into the bedroom of our apartment, and since ours is a railroad flat (no halls, all the rooms strung out in a row with no doors), I have to shut down the computer by about 8PM or 8:30.  Michael likes to go to bed early.  I should save up my pennies for a new laptop so I can make more productive use of my time in the evenings by working in the kitchen.

I have a lot of big unfinished projects lying around this blog.  I want to finish a series of posts on Liberty that I started some time ago.  I've been working on a second post for months, but it still isn't finished yet.  I'd like to continue that series of posts on Florence.  I haven't even started the Quattrocento yet.  I did a post on Northern Song Dynasty painting intending to follow up with a post on Southern Song Dynasty painting.  That may never materialize.  Someday, I'd like to do 3 or 4 posts on Rembrandt and Protestant Christianity.  I have no idea when that will happen.

While my big essay posts usually don't get much in the way of comments, according to Blogger statistics, they get the most hits out of all of my posts.  Perhaps it is people just borrowing the pictures, but I like to think that someone out there reads them.

I'd also like to post a little more regularly, but I can't guarantee that will happen.

I must admit to feeling a little exhausted and talked out lately.  At the moment, I just don't have much new to say.

UPDATE:

FINALLY!  I finished writing the second Liberty post. Now to spend hours and hours posting it.  Be warned folks, it's a long'un.

  1. I am grateful for all your posts. And you long essays afford me some reflection that I wouldn't otherwise get way out here in the wilderness.

And, yes to the laptop. Then you can log on to Hulu and watch "Painter in the Wind" --a take on the discipline of painting in 18th century Korea. (just kidding --but we did thoroughly enjoy it!)

  2. Just FYI--I read everything you write, even if I don't always leave a comment. (Note to self: leave comments)

I learn a LOT from you, and I'm so grateful that you take the time to share your knowledge and passion!

    Cheers,
    Doxy

  3. Relax! You don't have to comment if you don't want to. This ain't a seminar, and I don't take attendance. Besides, Blogger tells me now how many people read this thing, and roughly from where they read it.

  4. I love your long posts, Counterlight. I read them all, even though I don't always leave a comment. I don't do it to take the pictures, except for your paintings, which I have posted on my blog. I feel as though I'm getting free art history classes from Professor Counterlight, for which I'm most grateful.

  5. Another faithful reader here. I usually comment on your art posts. Sometimes on the political ones (except when all I would have to add is "Me too").

I expect bloggers to go thru patterns: more active at some times, less in others. When the Spirit moves, you'll blog some more (and I'll be here!).

  6. Yes, I look and read a lot, but don't often feel qualified to comment. I think I've said that before, but it bears repeating(but not often).

  7. I so enjoy your posts, Doug, long or otherwise. I may not always have the time to comment - but I do take the time to read them because they always make me think and learn whether they be about issues or art. :-)
