Scary Music

Here is a masterpiece of spooky music by the great master of spooky music, Bela Bartok. Here is the opening of Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta, the NDR Symphony Orchestra conducted by Christoph von Dohyani.

No one did spooky music like Bartok...well, maybe Mahler, but no one else...No, not Prokofiev, and not even Bernard Herman.

Bartok was internationally famous and even popular as a composer, yet he died here in New York an impoverished refugee.

It's been a long time since I listened to this piece, and I'd forgotten how cool it is.
