Crackdown in Uganda

On this June-teenth when we celebrate the end of slavery in the United States, freedom remains a remote and tantalizing promise for LGBTs around the world who remain subject to official and unofficial threats to their liberty and to their lives.

In Uganda, authorities raided a group of human rights activists attempting to assist Ugandan gay rights advocates in their attempts to organize their community to resist legal oppression.  In February, the Ugandan Ethics Minister ordered police to raid the meeting of a Ugandan gay rights group.
