1989
-The Berlin Wall came down as revolutions swept across eastern and central Europe; revolutions in Bulgaria, Hungary, and Poland; The Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia; the last Romanian Communist dictator, Nicolae Ceaucescu, dies in a violent revolution.
-A revolution in China ended in the Tienanmen Massacre.
-The Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska.

1999

Good riddance to a decade that sucked and blowed. God forbid the next one should be any worse.

Christmas

Christmas is the one time of year when mainstream middle class Americans actually celebrate the birth of a bastard child to an unwed teenage mother.

All of history came together in an infant born of questionable parentage, and born destitute on the run, to a mother who was herself but a step away from arrest and execution for adultery. Joseph could have handed her over to the religious authorities of the time, but didn't.

Our Creator entered the world as a fugitive born in a stable behind a cheap hotel in a remote colonial backwater of the Roman Empire.
