"In Heaven, Everything Is Fine"

Why does Heaven make me think of cotton candy?

I don't know.
Hell can get just as trashy (with a heavy element of S&M) as depictions of heaven.

My favorite images of Heaven would be Van Eyck's Chent Altarpiece, and the rose windows of Chartres Cathedral. There are plenty of great images of Heaven in art. There is some splendid Heavenly imagery in the 12th century Saint Sever Apocalypse.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you about Eraserhead. My memories of it are very different.

I suspect it's easier to envision hell because we so often live it or create it on earth. Heaven is harder. I can't imagine fixing some of the things that have gone on here, but for me, heaven is that place and time outside of both space and time where everything somehow gets fixed.; August 7, 2009 at 8:37 PM
