"In Heaven, Everything Is Fine"

Why does Heaven make me think of cotton candy?

UPDATE:

This one is for Lapin,

And here's a classic of celestial jingoism, Frederic Church's Our Banner in the Sky:

If that is what heaven is like, I have absolutely no interest in going there. I would rather just keep sleeping, thankyewverymuch...

Where's the American flag?

Much enjoyed your recent posts on the Russian avant-garde. Many thanks.

Eraserhead--ugh! There's a bad memory emerging from thirty years ago....

Don't know why it's always easier to depict hell than heaven.

Heaven? How about Botticelli's drawings for Dante's Paradiso?

I don't know.
Hell can get just as trashy (with a heavy element of S&M) as depictions of heaven.

My favorite images of Heaven would be Van Eyck's Chent Altarpiece, and the rose windows of Chartres Cathedral. There are plenty of great images of Heaven in art. There is some splendid Heavenly imagery in the 12th century Saint Sever Apocalypse.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you about Eraserhead. My memories of it are very different.
See previous post.

Yes, but the Church is an interesting painting...

OK, this is the first of your art postings I found distasteful. Where do they get this stuff?

I suspect it's easier to envision hell because we so often live it or create it on earth. Heaven is harder. I can't imagine fixing some of the things that have gone on here, but for me, heaven is that place and time outside of both space and time where everything somehow gets fixed.

eeep! This really is the Post of Velvet Icons. Except #5, the green and blue number, which is from bad fantasy novel cover art, and should have tacky elves and hobbits in it. I find your ability to locate these images both uncanny and proof of a certain sense of humor.
