Frank Frazetta 1928 - 2010

Brooklyn's own relaxing between paintings.

Frank Frazetta was a founding father of the Heavy Metal aesthetic and a very great and very guilty pleasure of mine ever since art school days.

Thanks for everything Frank, and enjoy that motorcycle ride into Valhalla.

Good googly-moogly, he must have done a lot of SciFi/Fantasy covers! [Was he bi, by chance? His fetishization of the human form, suggests Equal Opportunity oggling! ;-D]

Frazetta was famous for his sci-fi fantasy covers (for books and albums from the 1950s to the 1970s). Yes, I think he was an equal opportunity oggler, or else this gay art student would not have given him another look. In fact, the art student who introduced me to his work was gay.
I also think Frazetta was into bondage fantasies, for both genders.
I don't know of any evidence that he did anything beyond oggling his own sex. He was married and had a lot of awful children who fought over ownership rights to his published work long before he died.

Oh no.... I secretly collected his paperback books and examined them all.... so carefully. He is one who set my imagination free.

I owe him a great debt.
Ride on Frank. Ride on.
