Deputy Inspector Seymour Pine, who led the police raid on the Stonewall Bar in 1969,
dies at age 91. To his great credit, Inspector Pine spoke very candidly about his role in the raid and about relations between the cops, the gays, and the Mafia in Greenwich Village in the 1960s. Pine had the grace to publicly apologize for his part in the raids.
May he rest in peace.
