What I Do All Day

from the 1920 expressionist movie, The Golem. In this scene, Rabbi Loew summons the spirit Ashteroth to give him the name that will bring the Golem to life.



According to legend, the Golem is still there in the attic of the Altneue Schul in Prague just waiting...

The music. It's not Mahler, and it's not Schoenberg. Who is it? Stravinsky? Glazounov? NO. It's that German composer. His name is...(?)

This is a beautiful film. Please don't stop spending your days this way!

I also find this clip gripping and scary. Before the days of special effects and teenage slasher pics, moviemakers had to rely on (gasp!) imagination. That's why I love old German horror pictures. Max Shreck in Nosferatu remains the scariest of all vampires, in my opinion.

According to the YouTube entry, the composer is someone commissioned for this edition of the film. I'm not familiar with him, but he's there listed on the YouTube posting.

Some days it's Rabbi Loew. Others, it's Dr. Frankenstein and the monster gets loose.
