"The Hidy Hi and Boop a Doo, the Lullaby of Broadway"

I'll get back to the art musings eventually folks. I'm just having a long hard week teaching and I'm exhausted.

In the meantime, here's my all time favorite Busby Berkely number. When Hitler chased out all those German Expressionist film makers (and effectively ended the once formidable German film industry), they all came to Hollywood. There's more than a little Fritz Lang and Karl Freund here. It's full of shadows and darkness with a shocking surprise at the end. Here's part one:

Here's the rest of it. What if Leni Riefenstahl had said, "Fuck Hitler, let's dance!" she might have made something like this:

I'll bet you didn't see that coming.

betcha you're right....but the Hidy Hi and Boop a Doo...really got me going...my vitage was South Pacific Onward (my folks took me to a matinee)...I'm spellbound with all of it...some quack/troll has been visiting my blog and saying the usual offensive Queerslamming stuff...today's installment included Queers "mincing" around to Showtunes...how true, but I didn't "mince" in front of anyone ever (and certainly not until I got home and played the record privately)...now only my mind minces...too bad, the gaybasher doesn't know what he mincing.

Thank you...lovely.

Oh, just give him something to really cry about. Post Carmen Miranda in the "Lady with the Tutti Frutti Hat" number from "The Gang's All Here," and remind Mr. Oh-So-Manly that John Wayne's first name was really Marion.
Meanwhile, you can join all the other tree-huggers in their Priuses as they drive past Bubba and his big manly pickup on the side of the road that's out of gas.

Wow, that was great. That's one of my favorite songs, and somehow I've never seen that before.

It's so true about the Fritz Lang look, too. Smashing!

CL, your finds are only outdone by your insightful (and inciteful, when occasion demands) commentary: German Expressionism, Reifenstahl and Berkeley; you da man!

I'm blushing...
in arbitrary Expressionist colors.
