The Gay Old Party

Top GOP consultant and former McCain/ Palin campaign manager Steve Schmidt endorses gay marriage.  As always with gay friendly Republicans, it begins in personal experience.  His sister is a lesbian.

I'm still betting that the gay marriage bill will fail in the NY State Senate by a narrow margin.

Once again, don't believe the "we're all for gay rights" line coming out of the New York Archdiocese.  Cardinals Spellman, Cook, and O'Connor certainly weren't.  Their City Council minions kept legislation banning discrimination against gays and lesbians in employment and housing in committee when it was first introduced in 1971, and kept it stalled there until 1986 when Mayor Ed Koch publicly supported the bill.

The RCC isn't going to rent out a parish hall for a gay anniversary party (even if that anniversary is totally of the non-law-enforced sort), any more than they are for an SSM!

Brings to mind a song:

Those wedding bells are breakin' up
That old gang of mine
Not a soul down on the corner
That's a pretty certain sign
That wedding bells are breakin' up
That old gang of mine

All the boys are singin' love songs
They forgot Sweet Adeline
Those wedding bells are breakin' up
That old gang of mine

Their goes Jack, their goes Jim
Down to lovers' lane
Now and then we meet again
But they don't seem the same

Gee, I get a lonesome feelin'
When I hear the church bells chime
Those wedding bells are breakin' up
That old gang of mine
The lyrics work in a crazy sort of way.

Grandmere,

The song is true. I've had many friends vanish with marriage and become changed, not always for the better.

No more singing Sweet Adeline? What ARE they singing? What about Jack and Jim heading for lovers' lane? Waaay ahead of it's time, I'd say.

What's Blogger doing to the line breaks? They are not breaking.
