So Much For "Drill Baby Drill!"

I presume Sarah Palin, several Republican Senators, and the folks at Fox News who started that chant will be in Louisiana today with their scrub brushes and buckets.

This looks like the end of any new platform drilling from Eastport, Maine to Port Isabel, Texas. The Obama Administration appears to be retreating from its attempt to appropriate this Republican agenda.

It looks like the Louisiana oil rig disaster might be the worst environmental catastrophe in US history, and one of the worst ever. It has already claimed 11 lives, and it looks like it might destroy the Gulf fishing industry.

News reports are coming out that suggest negligence on the part of BP. If so, throw the book at them.
While we're doing that, let's look at our own role in all this. Let's face it, we suck up petroleum like a desperate crack addict. That national addiction is just as healthy for our country as a crack habit. We've already started two wars over the stuff.

Maybe it's time to conserve. Since we're not going to conserve at all until we absolutely have to, here's an idea, raise the gasoline tax, even by just 4 cents.

Conserve is a dirty word to republicans.

And what an irony since they call themselves "conservatives."

Depends on what you mean by negligence. If you think no plan for a disaster is negligent....

I'd say that's criminally negligent.
